The 16th Anna Amalia Competition for Young Guitarists will be held
from 11th to 16th April 2023 in Weimar (Germany) at the Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere
Age groups
I : up to 13 years (born after 11th April 2009)
II : 14 – 16 years (born 12th April 2006 – 11th April 2009)
III : 17 – 20 years (born 12th April 2002 – 11th April 2006)

Prizes
In each age group, a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize can be awarded. In addition, prizes for the best interpretation of a classical work, the contemporary set pieces and other special prizes may be awarded. The total amount of the prizes will be about 20.000 €.
The jury has the right not to award every prize.

Competition programme
Age group I:
Free programme of works from a minimum of 3 different periods, including one classical* and one contemporary piece (Total duration 12 – 15 min)
Age group II:
(Total duration: 17 – 20 min)

1 to 2 pieces from: Schattenreflexionen by Romeo Wecks
or
1 to 2 pieces from: 6 Genera Studies by Elia Koussa

Age group III:
1st round:

*– work originaly written for guitar by a composer of the first half of the 19th century, who is born before 1800, as for example Aguado, Carcassi, Carulli, Giuliani, Paganini (no violin caprices), Sor
Competition Rules
- The programme stated in the application is binding. Changes are possible only until application deadline.
- The participant is responsible for complying to the rules. If you are uncertain about your programme, consult the organiser. A programme non-compliant to the rules will lead to disqualification.
- The order in which the works are played may be chosen by the participant.
- The programme must be played from memory.
- The playing order of the competitors will be decided by draw.
- The assessment will be based on artistic-musical presentation, style accuracy, security and of most importance, musical interpretation. Scores will not be disclosed.
- The decision of the jury is final with no right of appeal.
- The prize-winners are obliged to be present in person at the award ceremony and, if applicable, to perform at the prize-winners‘ concert. The programme will be determined by the jury.
- The auditions and the prize-awarding concert will be recorded on video. A transmission as a live stream is planned. In addition, the videos will be published on the Youtube channel of the Gitarreverein at least until 30 April 2023 (longer publication can be objected to at any time) The participant cannot assert any claims from this.
The participants agree to the non-commercial use of parts of the recordings by the organizer Gitarreverein Weimar e.V., e.g. for image films, documentations or advertising for the competition. - Participants have to show a valid identification document upon arrival.
- Participants have to pay for all travelling, accommodation and living expenses arising from participation in the competition themselfe.
- The organizer carries no responsibility for any personal injury or loss of personal belongings which might occur during the time of the competition.
- In case of interpretational differences only the German version of these rules is binding.
- By registering, participants accept the above competition rules.
Application
Enrolment in the 16th Anna Amalia Competition for Young Guitarists can be made online (up from 7th January 2023) via www.gitarreverein-weimar.de until 3rd March 2023 at the latest. A registration fee of 50,- € must be paid at the same time by bank transfer.
The number of participants is limited. The admission occurs in the order of the entrance of the registrations.
Incomplete or late applications cannot be accepted.
In case of a refusal by the participant the registration fee cannot be refunded.
