Antje and Heiner Donath have been performing regularly as a duo since 1990. They inspire their audience with their great joy in making music together – characterized by masterful control of all facets of the appeal of the two instruments, by an ease of playing and great liveliness in the musical dialogue.
In addition to maintaining the classic original literature, they are particularly dedicated to contemporary music for this unusual and very attractive line-up. Their repertoire includes works by Paganini and Giuliani as well as the latest compositions, which are largely dedicated to the Donath duo and were premiered by them.
Concert appearances took her beyond Germany to Belgium, France, Switzerland and Slovakia.
In 2000, the Altenburg label “querstand” released her first CD “Viennese Classical Music for Violin & Guitar” with works by Simon Molitor and Mauro Giuliani, followed in 2006 by the CD “Paesaggio Lunare” with exclusively contemporary music.

Antje Donath, violin, grew up in an environment interested in music and art. She received her first violin lessons at the age of 8 at the music school in Suhl with Erhard Ziegler. At the age of 14 she moved to the Belvedere Castle Special School of Music in Weimar (violin with Dieter Hasch). In 1986 she began her music studies at the “Franz Liszt” University of Music in Weimar and continued in 1987 at the Rostock University of Music with Prof. Ulfert Thiemann. She became interested in modern and contemporary music from an early age. The concerto for violin and orchestra by Baldur Böhme (1932-2008), which she played for her exams, was enthusiastically received. She has been a member of the Staatskapelle Weimar since 1990. Antje Donath received decisive artistic impulses by participating in master classes by Wolfgang Marschner, Rainer Kussmaul, Regis Pasquier and Tibor Varga. Since 2006 she has performed successfully as a soloist with works by Johann Sebastian Bach, which she has played several times in cycles. In 2013 a double CD was released with the complete recording of the sonatas and partitas for solo violin by J.S.Bach.

Heiner Donath, guitar, studied with Prof. Jürgen Rost at the “Franz Liszt” University of Music in Weimar, where he was awarded the concert diploma in 1994. He took part in numerous master classes with well-known guitarists such as David Russel and Thomas Müller-Pering, completed additional studies with Alberto Ponce in Paris in 1994 and received prizes at the Concorso Internationale di Chitarra “FERNANDO SOR” in Rome in 1994 and 1995 as well as at the Concours International “PRINTEMPS DE LA GUITARE” in Belgium in 1994, 1998 and 2000.
Heiner Donath taught at the “Franz Liszt” University in Weimar and at the “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” University of Music and Theater in Leipzig as well as at the music schools in Weimar and Erfurt. From 2015 he will take over the management of the “Johann Friedrich Fasch” music school in Zerbst/Anhalt.
His debut CD “Fernando Sor Recital”, released in 1995, received an extremely positive response in the specialist press.
