This Rahana’s Quartet, named after the Germanic goddess of joy and delight, was founded in autumn 2005 by four young guitarists from the Schloss Belvedere music high school in Weimar. Since spring 2010 it has been playing with the current line-up of Juliane Bergemann, Judith Bunk, Anna Kermer and Alexander Keppner.
Juliane Bergemann and Judith Bunk come from Saxony, Anna Kermer and Alexander Keppner were born in Thuringia. All four successfully attended music school in their hometowns and laid the foundation for their guitar training there. They continued this in Weimar, partly at the Schloss Belvedere Music High School and at the “Franz Liszt” University of Music. The four musicians of the Rahanas Quartet are also very successful as soloists and can look back on numerous national and international competition successes.
The Rahanas Quartet was artistically supervised by Prof. Christiane Spannhof at the music high school for four years. From 2010 to 2013, the ensemble studied at the “Franz Liszt” University of Music in Weimar and received regular lessons there from Prof. Thomas Müller-Pering, Prof. Ricardo Gallén and Prof. Mathis Christoph.
The guitar quartet also received new impulses and suggestions for its musical and artistic development in master classes with Ivo Kaltchev and Liese Klahn-Albrecht, among others. In autumn 2006 the four musicians received a scholarship from the Belvedere Support Association. The quartet won first prize with the highest number of points at “Jugend musiziert” in 2007 at regional, state and national levels. They then received a sponsorship award from the German Music Life Foundation. The quartet can point to a very diverse range of concert activities, ranging from the design of classical concerts to musical accompaniments to festive occasions and collaboration with various orchestras. They have also given concerts in numerous German cities and other European countries. In 2010, the Rahanas Quartet was included in the promotion of “Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now”.
