The Duo Steimel-Muecksch (Olivia Steimel, accordion and Josef Mücksch, guitar) was founded in 2009 with the special commitment to arranging early music for their instruments and interpreting new music that was composed especially for this line-up. The duo works closely with young composers. During their studies together in Würzburg, the two were accepted into the Yehudi Menuhin – Live Music Now Foundation. The Steimel-Muecksch duo is the winner of the Castelfidardo International Accordion Competition (Italy, 2011) and second prize winner of the Klingenthal International Accordion Competition (2011). In addition to Germany, concerts and festival appearances have taken her to Switzerland, Italy and the Czech Republic.

Olivia Steimel, born in Achern (Baden), studied accordion with Prof. Stefan Hussong at the Würzburg University of Music, with Ivano Battiston in Florence and currently in the specialized master’s program for contemporary music with Prof. Mike Svoboda at the Basel University of Music.
Olivia Steimel is a member of the zone expérimentale Basel and was Artist in Residence at the Banff Center (Canada) in 2012 and 2013.

Josef Mücksch was born in Leipzig in 1987. He studied with Jürgen Ruck at the Würzburg University of Music and with Stephan Schmidt at the Basel University of Music.
