15th Anna Amalia Competition for Young Guitarists
The 15th Anna Amalia Competition for Young Guitarists Weimar will be held as an online competition
from 6 to 11 April 2021.
Age groups
I : up to 13 years (born after 6th April 2007)
II : 14 – 16 years (born 7th April 2004 – 6th April 2007)
III : 17 – 20 years (born 7th April 2000 – 6th April 2004)
(age on 6th April 2021)
Prizes
In each age group, a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize can be awarded. In addition, prizes for the best interpretation of a classical work, the contemporary set pieces and other special prizes may be awarded. The total amount of the prizes will be about 18.000 €.
The jury has the right not to award every prize.

Competition programme
Age group I:
Free programme of works from a minimum of 3 different periods, including one classical* and one contemporary piece (Total duration 12 – 15 min)
Age group II:
(Total duration: 17 – 20 min)
a) 1-2 pieces from: 6 Genera Studies by Elia Koussa
b) one original guitar piece from the classical period*
c) free programme
Age group III:
1st round:
(Total duration: 12 – 15 min)
a) one of the following Studies by Mauro Giuliani from op. 48:
No. 15, 16, 17, 22, 23 oder 24
b) 1-2 pieces from: 6 Genera Studies by Elia Koussa
c) free programme
Final:
(Total duration: 17 – 20 min)
a) one original guitar piece from the classical period*
b) free programme
*– work originaly written for guitar by a composer of the first half of the 19th century, who is born before 1800, as for example Aguado, Carcassi, Carulli, Giuliani, Paganini (no violin caprices), Sor
Competition Rules and Schedule
- All participants record their competition program on video.
- The complete recording should be recorded with a camera setting, the player must be completely visible, external microphones are allowed.
- Cuts within a piece / movement and subsequent processing are not permitted and will result in disqualification.
- Texts or subtitles must not be displayed.
- The programme stated in the application is binding. Changes are possible only until application deadline on 12th March.
- The participant is responsible for complying to the rules. If you are uncertain about your programme, consult the organiser. A programme non-compliant to the rules will lead to disqualification.
- The order in which the works are played may be chosen by the participant.
- The programme must be played from memory.
- The recordings must be submitted via wetransfer.com by Friday, April 2 (AG III: only 1st round!)
- Approved formats: .mp4 or .mov (max HD).
- The video file must be named with name and first name of the participant („name-firstname.mp4″ or „name-vorname.mov“)
- The videos may be recorded at the earliest from Saturday, March 27, 2021. All participants will receive a PDF file on March 26, 2021. The document must be printed and to see during the complete recording in the background.
- The videos will be publicly played on YouTube. The exact schedule will be published after registration deadline.
- The participants agree with public playback and can not assert any financial demands. The videos remain visible until the announcement of the competition results.
Parts of the videos of the winners – chosen by the jury- may remain permanently visible on the Youtube channel of the Guitar Association Weimar. - The order of playing the videos will be determined by draw.
- The jurors look at the videos at the same time on the Youtube channel of the Guitar Association Weimar or Anna Amalia competition.
- The assessment will be based on artistic-musical presentation, style accuracy, security and of most importance, musical interpretation. Scores will not be disclosed.
- The announcement of the results of the 1st Round of the AG III is carried out by publication on the website of the Guitar Association Weimar on Wednesday 7 April at the latest (the exact time is determined after registration deadline).
Participants which are qualified for the finals in addition will be informed by e-mail. - The finalists submit a video with the program of the finale until Friday 9 April, which must be recorded on 8 or 9 April. For this purpose, the finalists receive again a PDF document, which must be seen in the recording.
- The announcement of the results of the AG I and II and the final of AG III takes place in an online award ceremony on Sunday, April 11, 2021, in the live stream and by publication on the website of the Guitar Association Weimar.
- The decision of the jury is final with no right of appeal.
- The costs incurred for participation in the competition must be borne by the participant.
- In case of interpretational differences only the German version of these rules is binding.
Application
Enrolment in the 15th Anna Amalia Competition for Young Guitarists can be made from 25 January until 12 March 2021 online at www.gitarreverein-weimar.de
with simultaneous transfer of a registration fee of 50, – € to the account of the Guitar Association Weimar.
With the registration, please send a copy of a valid Personal Document and a photo on which the face is clearly visible.
The number of participants is limited. The admission occurs in the order of the entrance of the registrations.
Incomplete or late applications cannot be accepted.
In case of a refusal by the participant the registration fee cannot be refunded.
