The Anna Amalia competition for young guitarists is one of the most important international competitions for young classical guitarists in Europe. Every two years the Weimar Guitar Association invites you. V. invites young musicians from all over the world to the cultural city of Weimar to present their skills to an expert jury and an enthusiastic audience.
What began as a national competition in 1993 developed into an international platform as part of the Weimar City of Culture Year in 1999. The event has been a proud member of the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY) since 2004 and is characterized by a high musical standard and a family and supportive atmosphere. The competition is named after Duchess Anna Amalia of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, who was an important patron of the arts in the 18th century and was herself an active composer.
The competition is aimed at children and young people up to the age of 20 and is held in three different age categories. The participants present a diverse, memorized program that includes works from different eras from classical to modern. In addition to the coveted main prizes, special prizes are also awarded for outstanding interpretations.
For many young talents, the Anna Amalia Competition serves as a valuable springboard for their further musical careers. In addition, the meeting offers a wonderful opportunity for international exchange, for making new contacts and for experiencing the passion for the classical guitar together.
